ARTIST PROFILE

Brian Tremblay

Brian Tremblay

Besides running a very successful wedding and portrait photography business, Brian Tremblay also has an artistic side to his photography. Recently, there was a showing of his latest work, entitled Eros, at Loplops on Queen Street. He has had other showings too – at the Art Gallery of Algoma (Irrational Devotion), and the Fireball Café (Looking for Crazy Horse). This latest body of work could be considered erotica and is definitely intended to be stimulating and thought-provoking.

The female form has always held an immense fascination for artists, says Brian Tremblay. Since the earliest of times, artists have turned to the female form for inspiration and creative expression. Brian continues this long tradition in his work.

No longer using film, Brian uses a digital camera to capture his images. He prints all his own work on a pigment-based archival printer. "It is no longer black-and-white photography," says Brian. "I would rather refer to it as monochromatic. Even the colour prints have become unique beings unto themselves."

Brian is also a professional musician and has begun to perform in a duet with his wife, Lynn. They call themselves A Taste of Honey – watch for them around town. "Music, for me, isn't a deep-seated need to express myself," said Brian. "I just want to have fun, and rock 'n' roll has provided me that outlet." Brian plays guitar and harmonica while his wife sings and plays keyboards.

As a hobby, Brian writes screenplays. He's written three, and some have been read by production and management companies in California. Both passed on the projects, but that's to be expected early in a writing career. At present, he has one of his scripts in the hands of a director from Sault Ste Marie who is currently working on a new Billy Zane picture to be called "Imaginary Grace".
