Though
venturing into the local art scene only on rare occasions thus far,
the artist has quietly garnered awards for nearly twenty years in
such competitions as:
The Chrysler Search for Canadian Wildlife Artists (1987);
Ducks Unlimited Northern Ontario Art, Carving and Photography competition
(1993-1998 inclusive);
The CAEAS/Royal Winter Fair Equestrian Art Competition
(’1997-’98);
Canadian Morgan Horse Association Art Contest (2000);
American Morgan Horse Association art contest
(’1997 & ’98, ’2001 & ’05);
Saskatchewan’s Reflections of Nature wildlife art exposition
(’1998, ’99, ’2001, 2003 & ‘04);
Ducks Unlimited Provincial Sponsor Print Competition (2000);
Canadian Warmblood Breeders Association Catalogue Cover/poster contest
(2000) and the Agrium Red Ribbon Country Fair at Spruce Meadows
(1999 & 2000);
As well as having her work accepted into group shows too numerous to list. Her art and illustration has graced the pages of poetry anthologies, American Fandom, magazine covers and has found a home in private collections around the world.
Ms. Mitchell enjoys all things creative and is also an award winning photographer, poet and writer. She accepts commissions for animal themed art and her work can be viewed locally at “Roses Art Gallery” or online at www.equineartguild.com/hmitchell.
Self
taught artist H.D. Mitchell was not only born with a fascination
for wildlife and horses, but a talent for drawing…so
it was only natural, that fascination and talent combine to
express the beauty of the equine and the natural wonders of
her Northern Ontario home.
