ARTIST PROFILE
Ellen Hadath
Ellen was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario but now calls Sault Ste. Marie her home.
She is a Northern Ontario Artist who loves to paint and finds watercolour intriguing. It has become a passion for her. Every time she paints, she discovers more surprises and challenges. Ellen is an artist who makes a point of experimenting and manipulating materials to produce different effects. This leads to the execution of works that are spontaneous and fulfilling.
Her inspiration for experimental art is colour. Colour is her passion, her focus. It is her approach to tell a story. She constantly seeks new ways of expressing her feelings. Her focus is on the creative process. She must reach down deep inside and concentrate to make the whole creative process work for her. A painting evolves as the paint and water flow.
As an active member of the Algoma Art Society, Ellen has participated with the Sault Ste. Marie Community Services, Recreation and Culture Department, and the Sault Ste. Marie Arts Council in the annual “Art in the Park” exhibition; an event that Ellen assisted in establishing and that is held at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion each year.
She has participated in shows with: the Algoma Art Society, the Algoma Fall Festival of the Arts, the Bon Soo Art Show (Sault Ste. Marie, ON); Alberta House Gallery (Sault Ste. Marie, MI); the Canadian Arts Festival (Richard’s Landing, ON); Art on the Dock (Hilton Beach, ON); Four and Friends (Bruce Mines, ON); Sylvan Circle Tour (Sylvan Valley, ON); the Deer Trail Studio Tour (Northern Ontario) and the Northern Ontario Art Association.
During her participation in these shows, Ellen has won many awards and has gained gallery affiliations, including those with Roses Art Gallery (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) and the Olive M. Craig Gallery (Sault Ste. Marie, MI). In addition to works on display in these Northern galleries, Ellen’s work is also displayed in private collections.
Recently in the Northern Ontario Art Association annual juried exhibition, she was awarded the Goldwell Banker Pine Lakes Realty award for her painting “Harmony”, and an honorable mention for “The Arrangement”.
