ARTIST PROFILE

Pierre Schryer

Pierre Schryer began his career as a member of the famous Schryer Triplets. Born in 1968, Lois, Daniel, and Pierre became legends in their own time by dominating the Canadian fiddling competitions throughout the Eighties and Nineties. At 14 years of age, the Schryer Triplets recorded their self-titled debut album on the Boots Records label. A decade later, they recorded a second album, Triple Fiddle.

As a soloist, Pierre has appeared on local, national, and international media such as CBC TV & Radio, PBS, Cork Radio (Ireland), BBC International, and many more. In 1995, Pierre was invited to represent Canadian fiddling styles at the prestigious Gathering festival in Cork, Ireland. The festival was recorded and later released as a live CD compilation of selected artists which included Pierre. The Gathering/Various Artists CD is available on Real World Records in the UK, Caroline Records in the USA, and Virgin Records in Canada. He is currently working on a publication of his own arrangements, and his music is featured on the recently released CD/Book compilation, Fiddler Magazine's Favourites, published by MelBay.

Throughout his career, Pierre Schryer has maintained a commitment to education. In high demand for workshops, music camps, and competition panels, he enjoys sharing his experience and expertise with young fiddlers.

As a featured guest and solo performer, Pierre has appeared on numerous records and live performances with musicians throughout North America, sharing the stage with such prominent artists as Natalie MacMaster, the Barra MacNeils, Leahy, the Ennis Sisters, and Mad Pudding. He is in increasing demand as a soloist with symphony orchestras across the country.

Pierre Schryer's talents extend well beyond his musical abilities. A modern "Renaissance Man", Pierre is an accomplished luthier watercolour artist, currently performing on one of his own violins and creating the cover art & design for the recordings. His ambition and perseverance have led to great success in producing and directing large-scale musical showcases, as well as increasing opportunities for his quickly growing record label, New Canadian Records.

When not travelling the globe, Pierre Schryer resides with partner and fellow musician Merrie Klazek in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
