ARTIST PROFILE

Algoma Music Camp

Nestled in the hills on scenic St. Joe's Island, the Algoma Music Camp has been producing enthusiasm and dedication in its students for over 30 years. The morning begins with a hearty breakfast – followed by a few chores – then an activity-filled day of lessons and music ensembles, interspersed with recreation and crafts. Most days come to a close as family and friends enjoy evening student or faculty recitals in the Barn Theatre or main lodge, followed by a campfire or activity before retiring for the night.

An outstanding faculty and staff provide private lessons, master classes, orchestras, bands, choirs, and chamber music, as well as recreational activities. From members of the Toronto and London Symphony Orchestras to experienced professors and instructors from Canadian and American universities and conservatories, students receive outstanding tutoring. A very high student-to-teacher ratio assures two weeks of intensive coaching.

Algoma Music Camp

Algoma Music Camp has two divisions: Junior for elementary students entering Grades 5 to 8 in the fall, and Senior, for students in (or entering) high school.

There are students at Algoma Music Camp from beginner through advanced levels, and placement in ensembles is based on level. All students must have studied an instrument for at least one year.

The full inspiration of the Camp, so often developing a life-long love and pursuit of excellence, becomes apparent when one observes students run from lessons to orchestra or chamber music, prepare a skit for Fun Night, relax in conversation at the campfire, or receive a thunder of applause from fellow campers after a performance. Afterwards, they may pine all year to be out of their bedroom in the suburbs and back into their rustic cabin and a world of music!
