ARTIST PROFILE
Chris Horsepool
Chris Horsepool’s involvement in theatre and theatre production is nothing short of die-hard in the Sault community. Horsepool’s love affair with the big curtains began in 1985 when he won tickets to “My Fair Lady” through a radio call-in contest. Since then he has become a very supportive and active audience member, technician, director and actor; sharing his skills with a wide variety of theatre groups in Sault Ste. Marie.
Raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Horsepool was roommates in 1992 with Aubrey Falls, another committed theatre volunteer. When Falls garnered a part in “Greater Tuna” with Pull Chain Theatre, Horsepool volunteered to run lights for the performance. Thus Horsepool made the transition from being a dedicated audience member to a theatre technician. After the completion of “Greater Tuna” Horsepool committed himself to Pull Chain Theatre and ran lights for the majority of all Pull Chain performances which followed. Through his involvement with Pull Chain Theatre, Horsepool was given the opportunity to toke to the stage with “Bus Stop” and further expand his theatrical talents. When not behind the scenes Horsepool could be found on stage for occasional, much enjoyed performances.
After 9 years of lights and performance work Horsepool found himself in the director’s chair for “Lord Byron’s Love Letter”; an entry in Quonta’s “One Act Festival” in 2003. Horsepool also directed “Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun” in 2006 and “Barefoot in the Park” in 2007, both with the Sault Theatre Workshop. Current plans to maintain his involvement with theatre include directing the upcoming “Sinners” performance this October, also for the Sault Theatre Workshop. “Sinners” will run October 17 – 21 and for those interested in catching this prime example of Horsepool’s skill and passion can contact 705-946-4081 for ticket inquiries. He is a well respected figure within the local theatre community for his dedication as well as the extent and diversity of his involvement.
In Horsepool’s ‘other life’, he is a prominent businessman who owns and operates 3 local businesses. He is the proud owner of the Beaver Fuels Service Stations on Korah Rd. and Trunk Rd. and Chris’ Tire & Auto at 287 Korah Rd. Horsepool has succeeded at balancing a very active volunteer record in the arts with his personal business goals and is inspirational to anyone who has a desire to do more, learn more, and give more.
