ARTIST PROFILE

Lucie M. Gagnon

The majority of her life was spent far north in the small village of Fauquier Ontario on James Bay frontier. She lived in a log house situated along the shores of the Ground Hog River. Lucie was raised in a rich French Canadian culture surrounded by lumberjacks, trappers and adventurers. With these influences, her spirit developed a profound appreciation for nature. Her previous artwork included oil paintings, ink drawings, book illustrations, logos, advertising and numerous drawings.

Lucie moved and opened a studio in Goulais River in 2001. Her energies are currently focused on lead pencil drawings. As a professional artist Lucie has always expressed her artistic vision by drawing some aspect of the outdoors. In her latest exhibition “Among Trees” the artist explores Algoma’s natural beauty and the ever-changing seasons of Northern Ontario. Her drawings highlight shades and contrasts similar to those captured by large format black and white photography. She enjoys transforming the world of colour to that of black and white.

Lucie’s art draws deeply from her experiences with nature gained while canoeing, snowshoeing, camping and the like. Through her work Lucie’s passion for “the simple things in life” and her deep love of the natural environment are revealed.

Don’t miss her exhibition “Among Trees” from July 6 to August 10 at Loplop Gallery-Lounge. The Opening is Thursday, July 6 starting at 7:00p.m.
