ARTIST PROFILE
Halina Peltonen
Halina was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. She was married
in 1977 and since then she has spent her time in different areas
all over the province of Ontario.
Each move has given her the opportunity to meet new people and
cultivate friendships, many
of which are still going strong. These friendships are one of the
biggest influences in Halina’s life, and she especially values
those who have been accepting of people’s different personality
quirks. Having gone through periods of poor health, Halina credits
her friends for their part in caring and believing in her strengths
so that she could continue to pursue her goals. Dr. Walde once
reminded her, “look for the positives in life and that will
help you get through these tough times”. She has had to learn
many such lessons about accepting her own limitations and finding
balance in life. Halina has dabbled in the Arts and Crafts since
she was a child; she has always enjoyed working with her hands.
In her early thirties, Halina started to take her art more seriously.
Her favourite art form is acrylic paint and she enjoys portraying
flowers, scenery, and other aspects of nature in her work. She
finds it therapeutic to be able to create and share
something with others. She has taken watercolour and
acrylic painting classes, and found that learning and
sharing knowledge and experience with people gave her
great joy. Her passion is to share her own wisdom with
people of all ages and all nationalities.
She views art as an international language, which requires no words, yet communicates powerful messages. She once experienced this reality in Nicaragua where she had the opportunity to present art in small area schools. In the future, Halina would like to share more with local artists in coordinating art programs and encouraging people in the community to experience the fun and liberating aspects of art. |
One of the major roles which art plays in Halina’s
life is helping her to focus on the positive aspects of creation
and life in general. Art allows her to stay active and also provides
a way in which she can approach the challenges and stresses of
living.
